A quality fence post is one that will resist rot and decay while at the same time remaining straight without twisting, splitting or bending.
Pressure Treated posts are a common option because their chemical treatment makes them resistant to rot and decay. All of our Pressure Treated posts are certified arsenic free.
Another more environmentally friendly option is Western Red Cedar. Western Red Cedar has natural tannins that help prevent rot and decay naturally. It can be installed in a wet environment if necessary (like the West Coast, or Northwest where it grows) and matches your cedar fence boards better.
You can install cedar fence posts directly into the ground by using a post hole digger. Dig the hole at least 2 feet deep, more if you live in a colder environment. (for frost prevention) Place the post in the hole, and brace perpendicular if necessary for stability. Prepare 2-80 lb bags of cement and pour around the post into the hole. Let the cement mix cure for about 24 hours before placing a load on the post. The installation method for Pressure Treated posts can be the same as Western Red Cedar posts.
We currently stock all common fence post sizes, as well as custom sizes. Below is a chart of some common fence post sizes.
